AFMC serves as the buying agent to our Faculties of Medicine in contracting and supplying a resident matching service for four national residency matches annually; the current supplier agreement is reaching its fifth year.

Following review, the AFMC Board confirmed the need to put the resident match service to tender in keeping with Canadian law and due process. A Match Tender Committee will be struck and will be engaged in discussion of the tender documents prior to release as well as participate in the selection process. This committee will include representation from the deans of medicine, undergraduate and postgraduate medical education deans, undergraduate and postgraduate medical education managers, Chief Operating Officer or Chief Financial Officer, communications and informatics experts within the faculties. All four learner organizations, the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS), Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ), Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec (FMRQ) and Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC) will also be invited to join. A fairness advisor will also be engaged.

The tender process is expected to be undertaken this spring, for consideration of services beginning no earlier than the 2026 match cycle. The selected vendor is expected to provide a resident match service that will enable applicants and programs to participate in national matches for residency employment.
