Responding to the BMSAC’s Calls to Action
November 28, 2022
AFMC is working in partnership with The Black Medical Students’ Association of Canada (BMSAC) and the Network for the Advancement of Black Learners (N-ABL) to gather information about how Canada’s 17 Faculties of Medicine are responding to the BMSAC’s Calls to Action released in June of 2020, and to better understand the current national landscape of anti-racism initiatives and support for Black students and learners in medical education.

At the AFMC Board meeting on April 24, 2022, the Board approved the recommendation from the AFMC Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME), with the support of the AFMC Committee on Student Affairs, that visiting electives, including international electives, will be allowed starting in the Fall of 2022, for the Class of 2024, according to each school’s capacity and schedule.

Learners are encouraged to visit afmcstudentportal.ca to learn more about the application process and policies for visiting electives. Faculties of medicine determine the application windows, opening dates and fees for applications.

The refreshed learner focused Portal will be launched in May. It is designed to help students easily search and apply for available visiting electives.
