AFMC Response to the Federal Budget

On the heels of its very successful international congress in Vancouver, the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) watched with interest as the federal budget was announced last Tuesday. The AFMC celebrates the investments made in areas connected to the social determinants of health, such as housing, youth mental health, and a national school food program.
Getting to know AFMC Board of Directors’ Public Members

The AFMC's Board of Directors is constituted of 21 Directors including the Deans of the 17 Faculties of Medicine and four public members. By including members of the public on its Board of Directors, the AFMC benefits from the input of experienced leaders that bring important perspectives for the advancement of academic medicine in Canada.

We are thrilled to share that registration for the International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM) 2024 is now open. ICAM 2024 will take place in Vancouver, BC, from April 12 to 15, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency and Fairmont Vancouver. ICAM 2024 promises to be an enriching experience, not only because of the outstanding program but also because of the incredible city that will host our congress. We invite you to join us, to explore, to learn, and to be inspired. Vancouver awaits your arrival and so do we.

With dedicated streams on Medical Education and Health Research, ICAM 2024 will be the place to come together and discuss the most pressing questions in academic medicine. Our comprehensive program includes:

  • Plenaries on the Okanagan Charter: Inspiring Action to Support the Overall Wellbeing of Faculty, Staff, and Students; Sustainable Health Systems; The Role of Health Professions Education in Addressing the Human Health Resource Crisis Specifically Related to Comprehensive Team Based Primary Care; and The Art of Teaching Communication in HPE;
  • Joe Doupe Lecture: The Joe Doupe Young Investigator award is given to a health scientist that demonstrates excellence in research training and has accomplished a significant and innovative study in the initial stages of their independent academic appointment;
  • Lindau Lecture: The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings – established in 1951 – provide a globally recognized forum for exchange between Nobel Laureates and young scientists. They inspire scientific generations and build sustainable networks of young scientists around the world. A presenter at the ICAM is nominated to attend the Lindau Symposium in Germany and share their experience from the Symposium as well as speak about their research;
  • Career Development Workshops for research trainees;
  • John Ruedy Symposium, Gold Humanism Lecture and Charles Boelen Lecture;
  • AFMC Awards Ceremony: Celebrating Excellence in Academic Medicine;
  • Learner Forum and the opportunity to hear from learner leaders in Canada and from abroad;
