AFMC is working in partnership with The Black Medical Students’ Association of Canada (BMSAC) and the Network for the Advancement of Black Learners (N-ABL) to gather information about how Canada’s 17 Faculties of Medicine are responding to the BMSAC’s Calls to Action released in June of 2020, and to better understand the current national landscape of anti-racism initiatives and support for Black students and learners in medical education.

In July 2023, AFMC’s Culture of Academic Medicine Initiative (CAMi) launched its long-awaited Faculty Action page on the CAMi website to highlight initiatives that focus on well-being from the faculties of medicine across Canada.

Visit CAMi’s Faculty Action page and explore how our institutions are advancing the culture of academic medicine. Through a wide range of initiatives, the faculties of medicine are committed to promoting an environment of well-being and providing a safe, positive, and supportive environment for all.

From west-coast University of British Columbia’s “Office of Respectful Environments, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (REDI)” to east-coast Memorial University’s “The Gathering Rounds (TGR)”, discover what resources the faculties are implementing to embed health into campus culture for the success of learners, educators, researchers, and administrative staff.

You can also learn more about the Okanagan Charter Collaborative (OCC) and the members who are leading efforts to advance CAMi’s institutional strategy. Representatives from each faculty of medicine in Canada, EDI representatives, patient, and learner voices are working together to develop resources that will enable the implementation of the Okanagan Charter across Canada.
